Henry William Sumner Jr., age 50, of Red Lake, entered the spirit world surrounded by his family November 10, 2015 from the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Henry was born on September 29, 1965 in Red Lake, Minnesota, the son of Margaret (Hill) and Henry Sumner Sr.

Henry spent his early childhood growing up in Red Lake. When he was 8 years old, he moved with his family to Minneapolis. Henry finished out his schooling in the Twin Cities and received his diploma from the St. Paul Area Job Corps. He held many different jobs in and around Red Lake area throughout his life. Henry worked as a Chef at the Red Lake Casino and was a construction laborer on a major bridge project in Fargo, ND. Henry sang and was an old style grass dancer at many powwows, which he loved. He liked spending time at the casino, and enjoyed singing and playing guitar as a part of the Pentecostal "Praise the Lord" worship group. Henry was always helping his family out with odd jobs around the house as their 'handyman". Henry was a good, fun to be around and humble man who always made sure to keep close ties with his many friends and family.

Those family members he joins again are; his parents; Henry Sr. and Margaret, sisters; Ramona and Karen Sumner, paternal grandparents; Simon and Angeline Sumner, maternal grandparents; Thomas and Katie Hill, numerous uncles, aunts and other relatives.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife Ann (Gibbs) Sumner of Bemidji, sons; Joseph Jourdain of Red Lake and Henry Sumner III of the Fond Du Lac Reservation, daughter; Margaret Sumner of the Fond Du Lac Reservation, brothers; Stuart Sumner of Red Lake and Leonard Sumner of Thief River Falls, sister; Thelma (Bill) May of Red Lake, special brothers; Preston and Richard Sumner both of Red Lake, special sister; Melanie Sumner of Red Lake, one grandson and special granddaughter; Macy Johnson, aunts; Gloria Neadeau and Betty Beaulieu, uncle; Myron Sumner, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A wake for Henry will begin at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Old Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake and will continue until his 1:00 p.m. service on Monday, November 16, held at St. Mary's Catholic Church also in Red Lake. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers for Henry will be Nicholas Sumner, Keith Sumner, Brian Sumner, Tim Sumner, Jeremy Martin, Mike Martin, Derek Beaulieu and Maurice Cobenais. His honorary pallbearers are Tony Hill, Sam Hill, Henry Hill, Connie Hill, Preston Sumner, Richard Sumner, Tom Sumner, Floyd 'Buck' Jourdain, Richard Gibbs, Charles Martin Jr., Gerald Martin, James Johnson, Albert Johnson, Gerald Beaulieu, Mario Yanez and Alfred Kingbird Jr. Interment will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake following the service.
