Minnesota Fond du Lac tribal leader takes White House job
The chairwoman of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in northeastern Minnesota is leaving that post in mid-November for a job in the Obama administration.
Karen Diver, the band's chairwoman since 2007, announced the move in a letter to band members Monday, with her resignation effective Nov. 13. She will move to the nation's capital and begin her role as special assistant to the president for Native American affairs on Nov. 16.
In an interview, Diver said she will carry out her new responsibilities only throughout the second term of President Barack Obama.
