3 New Mexicans charged for selling Filipino jewelry as Native American

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – In the largest investigation conducted under the Native American Arts Act, three New Mexicans allegedly imported and sold Filipino-made jewelry as Native American-made jewelry, according to the U.S. Attorney General.

“The act is intended to protect Native American artists and artisans who rely heavily on the products and the sale of traditional and contemporary arts and crafts to provide their economic livelihood to preserve their rich heritage,” said Harvey Pratt from the Indian Arts and Crafts Board.
