Waiting to serve: After building vacant for 10 years, Children's Healing Center in Red Lake eyes 2016 opening
RED LAKE -- Vitality is emerging from a nondescript building on the shores of Lower Red Lake. The building is Abinoojiiyag Noojimoo-Wigamig (Children’s Healing Center) and one day youth walking the red road to recovery will walk through its halls.
Construction of the Children’s Healing Center, a 24-bed juvenile treatment facility located behind the Red Lake Detention Center, was completed in 2005. The 13,575 square-ft building has remained mostly empty while funding streams are sought for annual operational costs.
“It’s too beautiful a building to have stayed empty for so long,” said Muriel Dudley, Abinoojiiyag Noojimoo-Wigamig Recidivism Director.
