Tribal night deer hunt part of historic treaty rights issue

ASHLAND COUNTY — On November 1, an estimated 200 Chippewa tribal members are expected to take to the woods in Northern Wisconsin.

The night hunt is part of treaties from the 1800s, affirmed by a federal judge earlier this month.

The area is known as the ceded-territory, which makes up about the northern third of the state.
