Five-year-old boy survives near drowning in casino waterpark

Thief River Falls, MN (Forum News Service) - Life nearly has returned to normal for a five-year-old Detroit Lakes, Minn., boy whose mother said he nearly drowned in a casino waterpark last week.

Krystal Wilson's son Izaiah went underwater for an unknown amount of time Oct. 15 at Seven Clans Casino and Waterpark in Thief River Falls during a family stay at the hotel.

Wilson, 24, said she left her son under the supervision of his grandparents, who were watching their own five foster children, Izaiah's two siblings and another child, at the waterpark while she and her boyfriend Jordan Sisk took a walk.

A short time later, Wilson was summoned back to the waterpark, where her child lay poolside after CPR was administered.

"It was very scary," she said.

Izaiah stayed in the hospital until Saturday afternoon while tests were completed and he was put on oxygen. Wilson said the casino let her family stay for free on the night following the incident.

The family is now back at home, where Izaiah is taking antibiotics three times a day to stave off infection from ingesting pool water.

"Now he's pretty much back to normal, it just slowed him down a little bit," Wilson said.

Wilson could not specify how many lifeguards were on duty at the time but estimated at least three.

Seven Clans Casino did not return a request for comment Thursday from the Herald.
