CITY COUNCIL: Waiver vote splits council: Homeless coalition hoping to waive permit fees for new downtown shelter

BEMIDJI -- A request from the Nameless Coalition for the Homeless to waive certain fees for its shelter remodel failed Monday after a split vote of the Bemidji City Council.

The nonprofit organization was seeking to waive a $784 building permit fee and a $112 mechanical permit fee for a total of $896. The organization would still pay two state surcharges, one for $2.50 and the other for $35 for a total of $37.50.
