Red Lake Department of Public Safety starting Neighborhood Watch and Operation ID Program

First meeting October 22, 2015 in Ponemah

The Red Lake Department of Public Safety is starting a Neighborhood Watch and Operation ID Program in Red Lake communities. Neighborhood Watch and Operation are National Crime Prevention programs where neighbors "LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER" and Operation ID encourages community residents to maintain an inventory of personal property in the event of theft, burglary or destruction of property. The program will be administered by Red Lake Law Enforcement Officers and eventually managed by the community.

The programs are designed to encourage Neighborhood Participants to get to know each other and their routines so that any out of place activity can be observed, recognized for what it is and reported to law enforcement for investigation.

Neighborhood policing by you and your neighbors, together with the Red Lake Department of Public Safety creates a greater sense of security, wellbeing and reduction of crime and you are taught preventive measures that substantially decrease the likelihood of becoming a crime victim. Not only does Neighborhood Watch reduce crime but your neighbors will "LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER".

You will be trained how to observe and report suspicious activities in your neighborhood and what law enforcement needs when you report a crime or something out of the ordinary. You will learn how to watch for illegal activities 24 hours a day, seven days per week. In addition, you will be provided with a participant handbook containing the necessary information you need to maintain a successful program and also will receive a Home and Personal Security handbook which will serve as a guide to your own personal security and avoiding trouble with a number of potential issues surrounding your personal safety.

The first meeting will be held October 22, 2015 in Ponemah at the community center at 6:00pm.
