Family seeking $2.27 million in wrongful death case

A Vermillion jury was told that one of the city’s major employers was at fault in the death of a 49-year-old Native American man on Monday, and that the man’s family deserves $2.27 million in damages.

The lawyer for that employer, Southeast South Dakota Activity Center or SESDAC, told jurors that the man’s death was tragic but not the fault of the caregivers who gave a man with developmental disabilities “the best part of his life.”
