Workforce Fairness Coalition Announces Minneapolis PROUD Initiative

Local business leaders and employees to speak out against Working Families Agenda at Friday City Hall Event

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 14, 2015) – In response to the City of Minneapolis’ proposed “Working Families Agenda,” the Workforce Fairness Coalition announced today the launch of its the Minneapolis PROUD initiative. Local business leaders and employees from the Coalition will articulate their opposition to the city’s overreaching initiative, starting with a public forum at 9 a.m. Friday in Minneapolis City Hall, Room No 132.

Minneapolis PROUD’s mission is to raise up the innovative and responsive workplace environment that exists in Minneapolis and highlight the shortcomings in Mayor Betsy Hodges and the Minneapolis City Council’s one-size-fits-all approach. While the coalition shares the city’s view that employees deserve fair and honest working conditions and wages, the Working Families Agenda is an attempt to push government too far into the employee-employer relationship.

Stakeholders from the Coalition will present Minneapolis PROUD’s message at Friday’s gathering. City Council President Barbara Johnson plans to attend.

Event At-A-Glance

When: Friday, October 16th at 9 a.m.

Where: Room # 132 Minneapolis City Hall

Who: A coalition of Minneapolis Business owners and employees

Why: Share impact of proposed ordinance on employees and employers

Members of the Coalition foresee a rift in highly functioning, longstanding relationships between supervisors and employees resulting from the Working Families Agenda’s mandated sick time and scheduling restrictions. The city’s proposal fails to take into account the differences in industry, organizational size and structure and established workplace culture that make Minneapolis’ economy so rich and diverse.

Moving forward, the Coalition encourages continued dialogue regarding policymaking that isn’t so general, vague and overarching to the point it cripples employers. Those conversations will take center stage Friday as local business leaders explain why the Working Families Agenda isn’t good for Minneapolis.

*Attention Reporters and Editors – This coalition has an engaged roster of employers and employees available for timely media interviews. We pledge to help make coordinating the booking of newsmakers for interviews easy and hassle free. All quick turn deadlines or live in-studio requests for early morning shows will be fulfilled.
