UNCF EMPOWER ME TOUR ACTIVATES EIGHTH SEASON OF STUDENT UPLIFTMENT

Event inspires youth to excel in academic, financial and personal responsibility; offers on-site HBCU admissions

WASHINGTON (October 10, 2015) – The UNCF Empower Me Tour (EMT) – a free, traveling college- and career- readiness road show sponsored by UNCF (United Negro College Fund), the country's largest and most effective minority education organization – will begin its eighth season on Saturday, October 10, 2015.

The UNCF Empower Me Tour was created to prepare students to go to and through college and inspire them to take control of their future by using education as the foundation for achieving their goals and dreams. The Tour provides students and parents with a full day of college and career workshops and engaging panel discussions with special guests. Educators and entrepreneurs will share their personal educational journeys with participating high school students.

"We are excited to bring UNCF's Empower Me Tour Presented by Wells Fargo to Washington D.C. The Tour provides essential tools for our area's youth and supporting families to succeed in their academic pursuits, and transition into adulthood," stated Paulette Jackson, UNCF's Vice President of Development. "In addition to solid academic training, it is essential that students are trained as responsible citizens. EMT workshops and hands-on seminars offer opportunities for participants to invest in themselves and their futures. We look forward to a continued collaboration with our national partners and local supporting sponsors in bringing our students to and through their collegiate journey, and beyond."

UNCF, Wells Fargo, Procter & Gamble, Darden Restaurants Foundation, United States Marines, and FedEx are national sponsors of the Empower Me Tour. Educational Partners for the Tour are American College Testing (ACT), Education is Freedom and The C.A.R.E. (Careers. Academics. Recreation. Exposure.) Foundation.

"The UNCF Empower Me Tour makes the possibility of college real to many young people across the nation by equipping students and parents with information, tools and resources to help them make informed decisions," said Gigi Dixon, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Wells Fargo. "Wells Fargo is excited to team up with UNCF once again to provide students with interview training and job opportunities upon graduation."

Attendees will also participate in the Empower Me Tour College Zone, an interactive experience for students, parents and educators. The Zone provides an opportunity to engage with HBCU recruiters and to learn about scholarship opportunities. For the first time since the Tour's inception, the College Zone will feature on-site college admissions for select institutions. Students will meet with on-campus admissions specialists that will review their application and academic credentials (transcripts, letters of recommendation and ACT/SAT scores) to offer conditional admission to multiple select UNCF Member Institutions.

The UNCF Empower Me Tour will visit Minnesota's Twin Cities (October 10, 2015) and Rochester, NY (November 2) for Fall 2015, as well as Spring 2016 stops of Greensboro, NC (February 5-6), New Orleans (February 19-20), and Columbia, SC (March 11-12).
