The 78-year-old Maryvale great-grandfather and Yale graduate killed during a home invasion early Friday morning was viewed by many as a bridge-builder in the Native American community.
"We have lost our Martin Luther King. We have lost our Rosa Parks," said Eddie Web, a member of the Cherokee Keetoowah tribe who lives in Mesa. "This is not a crime statistic. This is an icon in American Indian history."
