Yreka smoke shop owner slapped with $750k fine

A Shasta County Superior Court judge placed a heavy fine on an Alturas Indian Rancheria man, closing another chapter in the Burning Arrow cigarette saga.

The case of the People v. Darren Paul Rose was decided in late August by Judge Bradley L. Boeckman. The case against Rose was raised after numerous attempts by the state and federal governments to stop him from selling cigarettes to non-Native Americans at his Burning Arrow I and Burning Arrow II cigarette shops in Yreka and Shasta County, respectively.
