Bon voyage Bemidji, Hello Hollywood: Rez Reporter and Jonny R embark on movie-making journey

BEMIDJI—On a foggy Minnesota morning, two men who have been scheming since spring to embark on a westward voyage to sunny Hollywood hit the highway in a boxy van with a film crew and a dream. The men are Rob Fairbanks, the "Rez Reporter" from Cass Lake and Red Laker Jon "Jonny R" Roberts.

Seeing a lack of Native entertainers in mainstream media, funny men Fairbanks and Roberts dreamed up the idea in May to create a film about Native comedians and life in general. By July, a Kickstarter campaign raised $10,000 to help the comedians fund equipment, the vehicle, hotel rooms and film production costs for "Rez Comedy." The Hollywood trip was postponed until after their appearance on the Great Northern Radio Show's "Back to School" show this past Saturday in the Bangsberg Theater at BSU.
