Leech Lake Tribal Police awarded $40K for body cameras


CASS LAKE—The U.S. Department of Justice announced in a release Monday more than $23.2 million in grant funding will be awarded to local and tribal law enforcement agencies for body cameras. One of the recipients is the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department in Cass Lake.

The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe will receive $41,967. The local department is one of 73 agencies in 32 states to be funded. The Minneapolis and Saint Paul Police Departments each will receive $600,000. Submitted grant applications totalled 285 with 55,000 cameras requested. Funding will provide for a total of 21,000 cameras.
