Pope's new saint: Hispanic founding father or enabler of Indian deaths?

WASHINGTON - When Pope Francis canonizes 18th century missionary Junípero Serra as a saint Wednesday in Washington, he will give Hispanic-Americans a saint of their own – and put a halo on one of the most controversial figures in California’s Native American history.

The pontiff arrived in Washington on Tuesday afternoon and was greeted at the airport at Joint Base Andrews, Md., by a beaming President Barack Obama and the first family.
