Minneapolis Firefighters will Hold Annual Block Party to Raise Money for Local Children
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.– This Saturday, September 19th, the Minneapolis Firefighters (Local 82) will hold their 3rd Annual MFD Block Party at the NE Fulton Brewery from 3-‐10pm. A $20 donation will grant attendees access to some of the best food trucks in the city, a silent auction, cigar roller, bagpipes, and musical entertainment by multiple bands, including White Iron Band as the headliner. All proceeds will benefit the Minneapolis Firefighters’ Operation Warm program.
This is the third year Minneapolis Firefighters have joined forces with national non-‐profit, Operation Warm, to bring happiness and warmth to economically disadvantaged children through the gift of a brand-‐new, American-‐made coat. Their mission is multi-‐dimensional: to provide new coats to children living in need and to target the root cause of poverty by supporting jobs for Americans.
Last year, Minneapolis Firefighters raised nearly $45,000 to distribute new winter coats to over 1,300 students attending Andersen United Community School and Red Lake Elementary. “To see the look on these kids’ faces when we give them their new coat is a feeling I’ll never be able to explain,” stated Justin Johnson, Minneapolis Firefighter, “not only are the children now prepared for our cold Minnesota winters, but their families have one less thing to worry about.”
This year, Minneapolis Firefighters hope to raise $100,000 to distribute coats to 3,000 children attending Bethune Elementary, Anishinabe Academy, Anne Sullivan Elementary, Mona Moede/North Star Elementary, and Red Lake Elementary. They are asking the community to support their efforts by making monetary donations and/or attending their upcoming fundraising events. Aside from the Block Party this weekend, they will hold their 1st Annual Ladies Night Out on October 8th from 6:30-‐9:30pm.
