Schools looking to close the gap: Annual results issued for achievement gaps, graduation rates

BEMIDJI -- Numbers released by the Minnesota Department of Education on Tuesday show some area schools flourishing, and others faltering, when it comes to issues such as achievement gaps and graduation rates.

The state’s annual Multiple Measurements Ratings score Title I schools in student proficiency on state exams, student growth over time, reduction of achievement gaps and, at the high school level, graduation rates. Schools receive designations by performing above or below state averages; from least to most desirable, they are Priority, Focus, Continuous Improvement, Celebration Eligible and Reward.

In the Bemidji School district, the only schools to receive a designation were J.W. Smith Elementary (Celebration Eligible) and Solway Elementary (Continuous Improvement).
