For the first time, the Akwesasne Indians finished as Canadian Junior B lacrosse champions.
The franchise won its first-ever Founders Cup (Canadian national championship) in Calgary on Sunday, beating the Seneca Warchiefs 9-6 in overtime in the tournament final.
“They pulled it off. They wanted to make history, the first team to do it,” said head coach Adam Thompson, just minutes before hopping on a plane in Calgary on Monday, bound for Akwesasne by way of Toronto.
