Activist says President Jackson was 'Trump of his era'
Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, is getting it from all sides these days. Women are trying to boot him off the $20 bill in favor of a well-loved female figure like Eleanor Roosevelt. A bill was introduced in Congress in April to do that in advance of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gives women the right to vote.
Jackson’s also under attack in an exhibit that opened last fall at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian titled Nation to Nation: Treaties Between the United States and American Indian Nations. It traces the evolution of treaties from those that honored peace and friendship to those that many Americans would describe as a campaign of genocide.
