Prosecution case nears end in Palm Springs man's killing

Prosecution testimony is expected to conclude Wednesday in the trial of a 30-year-old Cathedral City man accused in the kidnapping and execution-style slaying of a 21-year-old Palm Springs man in Sky Valley four years ago.

On Tuesday, a key prosecution witness in the trial of Andrew Michael De Los Santos testified she was smoking drugs in his Cadillac Escalade when he admitted to her that he had taken Shane Ayala out to the desert and shot him in the head.

De Los Santos has maintained that Ayala was killed in late August 2011 by the defendant's 37-year-old accomplice, Luis Raul Diaz, who was convicted in a separate trial for his role in the kidnap-slaying and sentenced last November to life in prison.
