WORLD SERIES: Northern Heat take game one

JONESBORO, Ark. — The Bemidji Northern Heat 10-year-olds got off to a good start to the Cal Ripken Baseball World Series by beating the host Jonesboro 6-5 on Saturday.

Trailing 5-4 in the fifth inning, the Northern Heat (1-0) were able to get runners on and put the ball in play to tie the game at 5-5.

With Ben Corradi standing on third and one out, Casey Rupp hit a deep fly ball allowing Corradi to score what ended up being the game-winning run in the fifth.

“We moved people around by bunting and putting the ball in play,” head coach Jason Brodina said. “This was a great team win.”
