Two-day detour on Highway 2 begins Wednesday

BEMIDJI -- Motorists on U.S. Highway 2 west of Bemidji will experience a two-day detour beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday for the setting of bridge beams on the state Highway 89 overpass construction project.

The detour follows Highway 89 and Scribner Road Northwest, according to a release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Highway 2 median, which has been closed as part of the southbound Highway 89 detour, will be re-opened for the two-day detour only.

A separate lane will remain open for westbound Highway 2 traffic to access Pete Lane Northwest. Motorists on Pete Lane intending to travel north on Highway 89 will not be able to cross the median, they will have to exit east on Highway 2 and make a U-turn on Wild Rose Lane Northwest, the release said.

A full closure of Highway 89 begins in late August and the detour for that phase will follow Scribner Road.
