Members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will head back to the polls to elect a new tribal chief.
In a split vote early Friday evening, the Tribal Council for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians failed to confirm the election results of a June 30 runoff between incumbent Chief Phyliss J. Anderson and former chief Beasley Denson.
"It is disappointing that the voice of our Choctaw people was not respected," Anderson said in a statement released following the council's vote.
