Carlson Relay Wins Battle of the Horse Nations Indian Relay Season Opener

Now that the first relay is complete, get ready for an intense and exciting summer season!

BILLINGS, Mont. – The 2015 Indian Relay Race Season started with a bang this past weekend at the Battle of the Horse Nations Relay series opener held at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wash. Fifteen teams from the top five horse nations competed for a $35,000 purse and valuable points to help earn them a spot at the All Nations Championships in September. On Sunday, June 14, Chaz Racine of Carlson Relay from the Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Mont. walked away with the first relay win of the season!

The Battle of the Horse Nations Relay was the first race in the PoloGear™ 2015 Professional Indian Horse Racing Series. The race was also a time to honor and celebrate the Muckleshoot Tribe for its contribution to the horse nations by purchasing and saving Emerald Downs racetrack. Here is a list of the upcoming relay races this season:

Jul. 3-5 – Oglala Veteran’s Memorial Relay Race, Pine Ridge, S.D.

Jul. 8-9 – Blackfeet Glacier Park Relay, Browning, Mont.

Jul. 10-12 – North American Indian Days Relay, Browning, Mont.

Jul. 12 – Will James Roundup Relay, Hardin, Mont.

Aug. 7-9 – Lower Brule Sioux Pow Wow and Relay Race, Lower Brule, S.D.

Aug. 7-9 - 51st Annual Shoshone-Bannock Festival Indian Relay, Fort Hall, Idaho

Aug. 13-16 – Crow Agency Fair and Relay Race, Crow Agency, Mont.

Aug. 20-22 – Northwest Montana Fair at Kalispell, Mont.

Aug. 28-30 - Canterbury Park Indian Relay (tentative), Shakopee, Minn.

Aug. 29-30 – North Central Washington Fair Relay Race, Waterville, Wash.

Sept. 4-6 - Ferry Crossing Pony Express Relay and County Fair, Republic, Wash.

Sept. 17-20 – Pendleton Roundup and Indian Relay, Pendleton, Ore.

Sept. 17-20 – All Nations Indian Relay Championships, Billings, Mont.

The Professional Indian Horse Racing Association (PIHRA) 2015 All Nations Indian Relay Championships will be held in Billings, Mont. at the historic MetraPark Grandstands Sept. 17-20, 2015. This year marks the third annual PIHRA Championships. Teams from all major Horse Nations are expected to compete for the biggest purse ever offered for an Indian relay event.
