Social services agreement advances Red Lake initiative

BEMIDJI—A partnership two-years in the making advanced at Tuesday's Beltrami County Commissioners' meeting as the board passed an agreement with Red Lake Family and Children Services. The agreement gives Red Lake Family and Children Services employees access to a statewide social services technology program through Beltrami County.

The social services information system (SSIS) is a state-run program used throughout Minnesota by social services for child protection information, foster care, adoption, children's services and adult services programs.

"It's a pretty important system across the state," said Beltrami County Health and Human Services Director Becky Secore. "Right now in Minnesota, only two tribes access that system: Leech Lake tribe and White Earth tribe and they are both initiative tribes. Which means they basically have the same responsibilities as a county."
