Ground Breaking Ceremony held for new Redby Community Center - P12

On Monday, June 1, 2015 a Groud Breaking Ceremony and Ground Blessing was held for the new Redby Community Center, which is scheduled to be completed in about a year.

The site for the new Center is on Ogema Avenue, which is on the old Mill Road, east of Red Lake Forest Products. This area was once where the old Red Lake Cedar Craft building stood.

Chief Greetings Spears conducted the blessing, followed by words from Red Lake Economic Director Sam Strong, Redby Representatives Allen Pemberton and Julius Thunder and Red Lake Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki Sr.

It had been discussed in community meetings about a new Redby Post Office being attached to the new Center, but sources said the USPS declined any involvement in the project.

A feast followed at the current Redby Community Center.

Chairman Seki stated in his address that the next Community Center to be constructed would be for the Red Lake Community in the near future.
