Peterson Seeks Answers on VA Billing Procedures

WASHINGTON - Congressman Collin C. Peterson today joined members of the Minnesota and Wisconsin Congressional delegations in a letter to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald seeking answers on veteran health care service billing errors.

The letter follows a VA discovery of unbilled co-pays for veteran inpatient care over a five-year period. The co-pays, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 are expected to appear in upcoming monthly statements sent to veterans.

"This is another troubling instance of the VA not adequately serving our veterans. We must keep our promises to those that serve, which includes access to quality and affordable health care," Peterson said. "I urge the VA to conduct a thorough review and provide a solution that will ensure our veterans have access to the benefits they rightly earned.

The letter requests that the VA provide answers to a series of questions before notifying or seeking payment from veterans.
