Not cheaper by the dozen: Bird flu outbreak causes rise in egg prices; food shelf forced to limit number of eggs given out

BEMIDJI -- As egg prices nationwide are increasing because of bird flu, the impact is being felt in the Bemidji community.

According to figures released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, egg prices are predicted to climb as high as $1.66 a dozen in some regions. That is up from its May estimate of $1.30 to $1.36, and tops last year's average price of about $1.42, which was a record high, according to USDA data.
