MINNEAPOLIS -- U.S. District Attorney Andrew Luger announced Thursday the indictment of 41 members of a multi-state drug trafficking ring that targeted Native American lands for the sales of heroin and prescription drugs.
The ring, headed by Omar Sharif Beasley, allegedly moved weapons and drugs from Detroit and Chicago through Minneapolis and sold heroin, oxycodone and other prescription and narcotic drugs in northern Minnesota and North Dakota, primarily on Red Lake, White Earth and other Indian reservations.
"The indictment of the Beasley drug trafficking organization is emblematic of our commitment to combatting heroin trafficking in Minnesota," Luger said. "These defendants, led by Omar Beasley, represented the most significant source of heroin in Indian Country."
