RED LAKE, MN - Over 300 Red Lake elders took part in day one of the 4th Annual Red Lake Nation Elder's Gathering, which began with registration at 8 AM at the Red Lake Casino Event Center on Monday, May 4, 2015.
There were numerous activities scheduled for the day which began with a hearty breakfast, Eugene Stillday with the opening ceremony, honor songs by the Red Lake Nation Singers, the welcome address presented by Red Lake Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki Sr. and the key note address given by Executive Administrator Charles Dolson.
From 10:15 AM until lunch Tribal Program Directors presented information to the elders on the services they provided. Presenters included: Harlan Stillday, Elderly Maintenance Program; Gerry Graves, Red Lake CAP; Dan King, Red Lake Nation College; Justin Beaulieu, Constitutional Reform Initiative; Oran Beaulieu, Comprehensive Health Services; Connie Berg, Division of Rehabilitation Services; Jason Siddens, Internal Audit Department; Darlene lussier, Equaywiigamig; and Wanda Lyons, Red Lake Detention Services.
During Lunch Comedian Jon Roberts performed, and presentations continued with the Red Lake Immersion Program and the Red Lake Nation Adult Protection Team, followed by performances by the Red Lake Nation Royalty.
The Red Lake/Leech Lake Boxing Club provided a youth showcase following the afternoon break, and Sonny Johnson give a music performance.
About 20 booths were also available for elders which included the Red Lake Chemical Health Program, Red Lake DNR, Balancing Our Lifestyles Program, Red Lake Economic Development Program, Tribal IDs and more.
Evening activities were also planned which included a cribbage tournament, black jack tournament and slot tournament, and limo rides were available, as well as photographs by E. Jourdain Jr. Photography.
Day two activities planned include keynote speaker Tatanka Means, a talent show for elders and the annual king and queen selections. The conference will conclude about 1 PM on Tuesday.
