State of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources

Bemidji and Blackduck Forestry Areas

To: Fire Wardens and Cooperators

Burning restrictions have been lifted for all counties in the Bemidji and Blackduck Areas as of 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015.

You may issue burning permits for hand piled vegetation and grass less than 1 acre for three (3) days after 6:00 p.m. All fires must be out at 8:00 a.m. the next day. Permits will continue to be required until three (3) inches of snow cover is on the ground.

Note: Campfires do not require a permit, but must be three (3) feet in diameter or less, contained in a fire ring, attended at all times, free of other combustibles, and completely extinguished before leaving.

MPCA regulations prohibit the burning of building materials, peat, and household garbage. Please report all unauthorized fires to 911 or to your local Forestry office.

Variance permit requests for day time burning, dozer piles and running fires larger than an acre need to be approved by a forester. Requests for these permits can be made to a DNR forester at the phone numbers listed below:

Bemidji Area Office (308-2065), Cass Lake Field Station (335-6647), Bagley Field Station (694-2146), Blackduck Area (835-3161), Kelliher Field Station (647-8268)
