BEMIDJI -- High winds and dry conditions sparked numerous wildfires in the region Wednesday, including several within Bemidji city limits.
Multiple agencies, including air crews, responded to a fire on the north side of Division Street and west of Adams Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, and the public was urged to avoid the area. By 3:45 p.m., Beltrami County Emergency Management officials said the fire, estimated to be about 15 to 20 acres, had been controlled and traffic in the area was allowed to resume by 4:30 p.m. Wind gusts during the day were as high as 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
