RED LAKE -- Roger White said after Friday's Section 8A title victory that his Red Lake High School boys basketball team had one goal in mind.
Go and win the Minnesota State High School League championship.
That run to a title will start with a familiar opponent for the Warriors at 3 p.m. Thursday at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus.
The state tournament brackets were released Saturday and Red Lake (23-5) went unseeded for the second-straight season and will take on No. 2 Maranatha Christian Academy in the quarterfinals for the second-straight season.
The Mustangs (27-2) beat the Warriors 95-67 last season as they went on to take third place at the tournament.
MCA is on a 14-game winning streak, but needed overtime to beat Minneapolis North 69-67 in the Section 4A title game. MNHS was the last team to beat the Mustangs.
Red Lake is on a six-game winning streak as it beat Win-E-Mac in the Section 8A final, 81-75.
The winner will take on the winner of No. 3 Battle Lake and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.
No. 1 ranked Rushford-Peterson will play Fond du Lac Ojibwe on the other side of the bracket.
The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 4 Central Minnesota Christian and No. 5 Nevis.
