Elroy L. Bastien

(September 15, 1950 - February 27, 2015)

Bastien, died peacefully in his home on Friday, February 27th, 2015, at the age of 64. Throughout his diagnosis and care, Elroy maintained his quick wit and sense of humor. He always extended sincere kindness to those providing him care and was appreciative of all the kind thoughts and support of those around him. Elroy was born on September 15, 1950 in Cloquet, MN to Louis and Helen (Johnson) Bastien. Growing up, Elroy attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1968. Following graduation, he joined the Navy and was in the service for 4 years. At that time, he moved back home to Cloquet, where he started a new chapter in his life and welcomed his children James and Lisa. Elroy had a love for nature, fishing and sports. He appreciated anything that brought him outdoors and was looking forward to a nice summer to do some fishing on the river.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Michael. He is survived by his son James and his partner Lorrie Bilich; daughter Lisa and her wife, Samantha Belcourt and their son Isaiah; brothers, Duane (Yvonne) Bastien, John (Judy) Bastien, and Charles Bastien; sisters, Roberta Osborne, Janet (Sherman) Liimatainen and Cynthia (James) Skagerberg. Elroy is also survived by special friend Karen Irving; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Military Honors will be presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard, followed with a luncheon in the fellowship room.
