Funds to Attend the Rural Arts & Culture Summit Are Available

This program is designed to encourage networking and the exchange of ideas for local artists and arts organizations from the region by providing financial assistance to attend the Rural Arts & Culture Summit in Morris, MN - June 2-4, 2015. To encourage participation, R2AC will distribute limited funds to defray the costs of travel, lodging, and registration to attend the Summit. Funds will be distributed as a reimbursement after the Summit, upon the submission of a final report and receipts.

This year’s Summit theme is “From the Ground Up: Cultivating Creative People & Places.” From remote studios in the woods to bustling downtown theaters, how do arts and cultural experiences contribute to the identity of a rural community or region? What resources, skills or support do rural artists and arts organizations need in order to thrive in these places? How can community and economic development leaders tap into their regions’ cultural assets as they plan for their future?

The Summit will gather artists, art organizations, rural-centric organizations, and community and economic development leaders to learn about creative people and places that have built their stories "from the ground up". People from across the state and country will gather to celebrate the imaginative and creative thinking that has helped to create vibrant small town cultures and to celebrate the artistic process as a powerful symbol and tool for strong, vibrant communities.

Any individual, 18 years or older, residing in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods or Mahnomen counties who is interested in building community through the arts may apply. Apply early, as the funding is limited. Applications must be received by R2AC by April 6th at 5pm.
