PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To accomplish the maintenance and general regular work on all buildings, utilities, structures, grounds and other related functions. Reports to Detention Administrator, full-time w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Performs mixed duties of a general nature necessary for the proper operating maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities, includes carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, water and sewer plant operations and other trades

• Performs the operation of automotive, tractor and comparable equipment as required where employment of a journeyman in each classification on a full-time basis is not practicable

• For minor periods of time, duties may involve assisting fire suppression and also may be required to do simple labor tasks as an incidental part of the general duties

• Maintains power-driven pumps, cleans, greases or oils, adjusts and makes necessary repairs as repacking pumps, renewing gaskets, etc. Connects pipe lines, operates and maintains pumps supplying water to lateral distribution system

• Assists other maintenance worker when necessary for the proper operation, maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities, including grounds, water and heating systems, pumps, motors or other equipment

• Must be familiar with hand tools and power equipment that is characteristic of the trade

• Makes repairs, additions and alterations on wood-structured buildings and sheds.

• Must be able to build forms, reshingle roofs and do inside and outside finish work, installs floor and ceiling tile as well as applying wall paneling, finishes sheetrock walls, installing pre-finished cabinets, trim work and hanging of doors.

• Must be able to perform construction and maintenance laborer duties such as: loading and unloading trucks or other equipment with materials requiring handling in the building trades such as sacks of cement, cement blocks, lumber and lumber supplies, radiators, heating equipment and furniture

• Performs lawn and ground maintenance work

• Repairs and maintains the water and plumbing in all buildings. Opens clogged drains, replaces washers on leaky faucets and performs other duties related to the plumbing trade

• Assist in the minor and major overhaul of Plant equipment such as pumping stations, water softening plants, steam and hot water heating systems

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Must possess a valid Minnesota State Driver's License with auto insurance

• Prefer two years of building operations experience or equivalent.

• Requires a current boilers license

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
