Ruth Ann Smith, 59, of Bena, MN passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Ruth was born on February 16, 1955 in Cass Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Phillip and Clara (Jones) Smith.

Ruth was an amazing woman who was always willing to help someone. It didn’t matter what it was that they needed…she would get it. She loved going to the casino with her special friend Jerry Chase. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her Dad, sisters; Peggy and Wanda Smith, brother; Darwin Smith, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ruth is survived by her husband Rowa Sherer of Cass Lake, mother, Clara Smith of Bena, son Jerry St. John of Bena, daughter Toni Smith of Princeton, brothers; Gary (Tammy) Smith of Bemidji and Michael Smith of Bena, sisters; Bonita DesJarlait of Bena and Thelma (Larry Keefer) Smith of Cass Lake, seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A wake for Ruth will begin at 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2015 and continue until her 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 all being held at the Bena Community Center in Bena, MN. Father George Ross will officiate. Helping to lay Ruth to rest are Darick Gould, Jordan Smith, Joseph Wilson, Jr., Phillip Delapaz, Jerry Chase and Michael Smith. Honorary pallbearers for Ruth are Rebecca Smith-Ross, Heather Smith, Tina Smith, Clarice Archambault-Gould, Cora Quaderer, Michelle Smith, Erica Smith and Kristen Smith. Interment will be in the Prince of Peace Cemetery at Mission/Cass Lake, MN following her Wednesday service.
