Warriors up their record to 14-3 with 87-66 win over Walker-Hackensack-Akley - P2

WALKER, MN – Jeremy Martin's 37 points off the bench, along with Justice Needhams 21, and shooting 26 of 29 from the free throw line, gave the Red Lake Warriors the 87-66 win over the Walker-Hackensack-Akley Wolves on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.

Logan Gross scored the first two points for the Wolves after the tip off, but that was the only time in the game they would lead, as Red Lake's Justice Needham hit back to back 3 pointers, two free throws after a turnover, and two more points after a steal by Rob McClain to put the Warriors on top 10-2.

Ira Spears was fouled during a shot and hit both free throws, Jacob Schneider hit two for the Wolves on a feed, and McClain hit a five-footer to put Red Lake up by 10, 14-4.

Dakota Hall hit 2 inside and Gross added two more on a layup, and after Russell Kingbird was called for a charge, McClain fed Martin underneath for 2, and on a fast break after the Wolves missed their shot, Martin connected on a long pass and was fouled after making the shot. After he hit the free throw Red Lake was up 19-8.

On another fast break McClain connected with Martin on a long pass for 2 more points before the Wolves scored on free throws from Brian Sea.

James Jourdain hit 2 on a put back, and scored again underneath after a Wolves' turnover, and Martin connected for two with a left handed shot and an assist by Kingbird to put the Warriors up 27-12.

Sea scored from inside the circle, and after McClain rejected Schnieder's shot, Beau Bergmann scored, only to have Red Lake go on a 7-point run with all scores by Martin.

Trailing 34-16, Austin Serber scored for the Wolves, Martin answered it, Sea hit for 2, followed by a 3 by Hall to put the score at 36-23.

Martin was fouled underneath and hit both his free throws, Hall scored and missed a free throw after he was fouled, and once again Martin was fouled on a long pass after a turnover, where he connected on both free throws, as well as giving him 20 points off the bench.

Brady Gross got a steal and laid it up for two, and with 1;26 left in the half, Hall connected for 3, and Needham answered with 2 to end the half with Red Lake up 45-33.

Snieder and Sea each scored for the Wolves to start the second half, before McClain scored and was fouled, and made it a 3-point play by hitting his free throw, followed by 2 by Sea, and Martin with a 10-footer.

McClain stuffed Schneider but a turnover allowed the Wolves to score, and they scored again followed by 1 of 2 free throws made by Kingbird before Schneider put in 2 on a put back and after Sea got a steal, Schneider hit again and was fouled. Schneider made the free throw and put the Wolves to within 5 at 51-46.

It was Kingbird to Martin for 2, Schneider wide open at the other end for 2 after a Red Lake turnover, followed by scores by Kingbird and Martin before the Wolves scored again.

Hall nailed a 3 pointer, Kingbird hit two free throws, Martin drilled a 3 pointer, Needham scored and Kingbird again plus he drew the foul. After making the shot, Red Lake was up again by 14 at 67-53 in that ten-point run.

With 5:15 left in the game, Kangas scored underneath and Brigmann added 2 more off another Red Lake turnover. McClain was fouled and hit 1 of 2 free throws, and at the other end it was Hall hitting his fifth 3 pointer of the game.

Martin drove and mad the layup but he was fouled before the shot and it didn't count. He made both free throws anyway, and during transition was fouled again, where he was still perfect from the line after sinking both shots. The score was 72-60.

Off a steal by McClain, Needham connected for a 3, and off a steal by Spears it was Kingbird scoring 2, followed by McClain rejecting another shot at the other end allowing Spears to connect with Martin for 2 more.

McClain rejected a shot by Brigmann but Hall hit another 3 after the rebound, and Needham attempted to answer with his own 3, only to be fouled. He hit all 3 free throws at the 2:05 mark and Red Lake still led 82-67.

Needham was fouled again and hit both shots, and after missed shots by the Wolves, Martin was fouled going the other way where he remained perfect from the line with his two free throws.

A score by Randy Norris for Red Lake and a free throw by the Wolves near the end gave the Warriors the 87-66 win.

Red Lake's Jeremy Martin led all scorers with 37 points on the night, going 12 of 12 from the free throw line, followed by Justice Needham with 21, Russell Kingbird with 10 and Rob McClain with 8 points and 10 rebounds. The Warriors had shot 26 of 29 free throws.

Dakota Hall led the Wolves with 22 points, six of which were 3 pointers.

It was Red Lake's 7th win in a row and they will host Blackduck on Friday, January 23 before road trips to Nevis, Carlton and Laporte.

Red Lake B-Team won their game 69-62, and the C-Team lost 61-54.
