Martin, Red Lake dominate Fond du Lac

Jeremy Martin put up 36 points as Red Lake beat Fond du Lac Ojibwe School 83-65 in Friday's tournament opener. The game was a battle of Class A state tournament teams from a year ago.

Martin couldn't be contained in the paint, where he scored 34 of his points, while going 2-for-3 from the free throw line.

"He's been very good for us as of late," Red Lake coach Roger White said.

Martin entered the game averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game.

Ira Spears added 14 points for the Warriors, while James Jourdain and Russell Kingbird each scored eight.

Fond du Lac (6-10) was led by Jordan Diver with 19 points while making five three-pointers.

Dexter Delille added 15 points while Cameron Thompson had 14 points. Allen Trulson had 10 points.

"I would've liked to have seen better defense," White said. "But we were able to force some turnovers.'

The Warriors will play Bemidji today at 2:45 and coach White is looking forward to taking on a Class AAAA school.

"They don't have many wins, but they are a Class AAAA school," White said.

The Warriors are 12-3 after the win and will be looking to repeat as Section 8A champions.

"If we play better defense and get in transition, we can be pretty good," White said.
