Dempsey Greenleaf, Akii-Wensii, 67 years old, began his spiritual journey on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at his home in Red Lake, Minnesota. He graced this earth on April 3, 1947 the son of Henry and Helen (Jones) Greenleaf. Dempsey served in the U.S. Army for three years.

Dempsey was a very good craftsman and he believed his traditional ways. He would gather Birch Bark from the trees and make many different art pieces out of it. He loved visiting with his friends and speaking in Ojibwe with them. Dempsey would attend pow-wows and he took pride in raising the flags for the Veterans while he was there. He was a true outdoorsman who was very caring toward all the animals especially for his Humming birds. Dempsey liked spending time at the Lodge house and would help out there when he was able. He worked in many different areas throughout his life, which include the sawmill, as a janitor at the Red Lake School house in Minneapolis and the Ponemah Elementary School. He also worked for the Jensen's Store for numerous years and at the casinos in Warroad and Thief River Falls. You could always find Dempsey helping others who were in need. His hobbies were playing bingo, scratch off tickets, watching football, fishing, and sugar bushing. Dempsey had a laugh nobody could compare to and it will be missed by all who knew him.
