Lady Warriors advance to Championship with 80-42 win over Goodridge-Grygla at NCTC Girls Tournament

After defeating Northern Freeze on Monday at the 2014 Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, they faced Goodridge-Grygla on Tuesday in the semi-final round. The Chargers had defeated RLCC 54-31 to advance on Monday as well.

Goodridge-Grygla led with the 1st point of the game off a freethrow, but that was the last time they would led throughout the game.

It was pretty close in the early minutes, until Red Lake picked up the pace and used their full court press to stop the Chargers, at one point leading 38-16.

But Goodridge hung around and had a rally of their own, bringing themselves to within 7 at the half, 39-32.

It was all Red Lake in the second half with a barrage of 3-pointers by Grace White, Avery Holthusen and Samantha Roy, who put on a free clinic for the Chargers and pretty much put the game away. The Warriors outscored Goodridge-Grygla 41-10 in the second half, giving them the 80-42 win.\

It is the Red Lake Lady Warriors first time playing in this tournament. An 8-team field, it began on Monday and will wrap up on Thursday, Dec. 4th. The win put Red Lake in the Championship with either BGM or Stephen-Argyle

Other teams in the tournament include Clearbrook-Gonvick and Sacred Heart.

In scoring, Grace White led all scorers with 26 points on the night, 6 of which were 3-pointers, had 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Avery Holthusen hit for 18, 4 of which were 3's, Samantha Roy had 13 off the bench, Tatianna McClain netted 11 and 7 rebounds, Alexis Desjarlait added 9 with 4 rebounds, and Kennedy Barrett had a 3-pointer and 4 rebounds.

Leah Scholtz led the Chargers with 11 points.

The win also put the Lady Warriors 2-0 on the season. They will play in the championship on Thursday, then travel to Cass Lake on Friday for their first conference game.

Cass Lake lost their game this evening against the Fosston Grayhounds.
