Bemidji State celebrates global experiences at International Education Week

Nov. 12, 2014 — Bemidji State University will hold a week-long celebration of the transformational educational opportunities available to its faculty and students through study-abroad programs during International Education Week, Nov. 17-21.

Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and the International Program Center, the week will allow faculty, staff and students who have participated in international opportunities over the last two to three years to share their experiences.

More than 20 sessions will highlight a broad spectrum of international experiences, as students and faculty discuss the benefits of study-abroad programs and the opportunities available to BSU faculty and staff; personal reflections on experiences traveling to places such as England, Switzerland, China and Germany; presentations by students from other nations who are studying in Bemidji, both at BSU and at local high schools; and educational workshops on topics such as the Chinese language, teacher training in Switzerland, and more.

International Education Week kicks off on Monday, Nov. 17, with seven presentations hourly beginning at 10 a.m. The week continues with four hour-long presentations on Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m.; a five-activity schedule on Wednesday that begins at 8 a.m. and concludes with a two-hour presentation by residents in BSU’s Open Borders Learning Community; a pair of presentations on Thursday and a trio of Friday-afternoon activities featuring presentations from four Chinese scholars visiting BSU as part of the Northstar Scholars Academy.
