Redby man, Redwood Falls woman sentenced in burglary spree

INTERNATIONAL FALLS -- Two people arrested in connection with 11 burglaries in six communities have been sentenced in Koochiching County Court.

Brandon George Howard Sr., 34, of Redby, and Holly Beth Johnson, 30, of Redwood Falls, were arrested in July by Red Lake Tribal Police. The two were suspected in burglaries that occurred at seasonal cabins and unoccupied residences in Roosevelt, Benville, Shooks, Spruce, Minnie and Bemidji Townships.

Howard was convicted Sept. 29 of felony second-degree burglary. He was sentenced to 28 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud, which has been stayed for 10 years. Howard must serve 90 days in the Koochiching County Jail in International Falls. Howard has been placed on 10 years supervised probation and must pay a $250 fine plus $500 in restitution. A felony third-degree burglary charge and a felony level theft charge were dismissed.

Johnson was convicted Sept. 29 in Koochiching County Court on one count of felony second-degree burglary and one count of felony level theft. She has been sentenced to 18 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Shakopee, which is stayed for 10 years for the burglary charge. Johnson was sentenced concurrently to a year and one day in prison on the theft charge which has been stayed 10 years.

Johnson must serve 90 days in the Koochiching County Jail. She has been placed on 10 years supervised probation and must pay a $250 fine plus $500 in restitution. A felony first-degree burglary charge and a felony level theft charge were dismissed.

Johnson appeared in Beltrami County District Court Monday facing one count of felony first-degree burglary and one count of felony second-degree burglary. Her next appearance in Beltrami County is scheduled for Oct. 20. Johnson is being held in the Beltrami County Jail.

Beltrami County Sheriff's Office and Koochiching County Sheriff's Office were working with Red Lake Tribal Police on the burglary investigation.
