WeFest Aftermath: Over 225 911 calls

DETROIT LAKES, M.N. -- The Minnesota State Patrol and Becker County Sheriff's Office told us they have seen some severe incidents during the concerts throughout the years.

After a nearly week long non-stop, no rest for the weary, country going concert, campers pack up.

"Coming to a festival that boost over 80 to 100,000 people, you know, you could really get lost in a festival like this," said concert goer Crystal Hanson. "But it's absolutely amazing."

Now, they all hit the road for the journey back home. Some like Hanson, who's from up north across the Canadian border, have a longer drive than others.

The Minnesota State Patrol warned drivers to be pre cautious as traffic grows. In fact, they've already had to clean up several accidents from drivers not paying attention or choosing not to follow the law.

"We did arrests a few drivers for DWI's," said Lt. Corey Pausch from M.N. State Patrol. "We had a lot of minor consumption charges and a lot of under 21 drink and drive charges."

A total of 18 were arrested for DWI's. Law enforcement told us mass crowds and booze is never a great combination. Alcohol played a factor in the tazing and stabbing incident Thursday.

"If you get 30 to 40,000 people together, I mean, you're bound to have something like that happen," said Becker County Investigator Luke Sweere. "It's not something that's happened every year, but we had some serious assaults that have happened in the past."

We pulled some numbers and over the course of the four day concert Becker County Sheriff's Office received over 225 911 calls, at the top of the list 42 medical injuries, 28 for disorderly conduct and 19 for property damage.

While crowds can get out of hand, it's not something that would deter Hanson from coming back next year.

"We might stop coming if it turned into something, but no it's been absolutely wonderful here," said Hanson.

Over the course of the concert about 70 people were arrested. Most common violations were drinking and driving and disorderly conduct. State patrol pulled over 588 cars for traffic stops.
