Leech Lake inauguration held in Walker

WALKER -- Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe members traveled from the tribal government headquarters in Cass Lake to Walker to host the 2014 Inauguration Ceremony at Northern Lights Event Center on Thursday. A new secretary/treasurer, District 1 and District 2 representatives were sworn into office.

Arthur "Archie" LaRose defeated incumbent secretary/treasurer Donald J. Finn in the 2014 election. LaRose was sworn in by Walter Chase.

District 1 Representative Robbie Howe did not seek reelection. Penny DeVault was voted into the District 1 office over James Howard. DeVault's oath was administered by Steve Jackson who also led the pipe ceremony. Incumbent District 2 Representative Steven W. White received 71 percent of the votes in the primary and did not have an opponent in the general election. White was sworn in by Lindsey White and Michelle Losh.

During the ceremony, a flag song, honor song and drum song were performed, as was posting of the colors by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Honor Guard.

Housing Board members and School Board members were also sworn into office. Those elected to the Housing Board include Rosanne Wilson, Raymond Geving and Leonard Headbird. Brenda White, Ronald Burnette, Jerry Morgan and Samuel "Rocky" Papasodora were sworn in on the School Board.
