Father’s Day Celebration set for June 14-15

Come out and enjoy a day of fun with dad at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. The Father’s Day Celebration is set for Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15.

Fathers will receive free admission to the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center as well as free cookies and soda in the Aaimpa’ Café.

A special stomp dance demonstration honoring fathers and a father and child archery contest will take place Saturday, June 14, in the Traditional Village.

A Father’s Day card workshop is planned Saturday for children 12 and under.

In addition, the Traditional Village is open every weekend through Labor Day. Living history performers re-enact Chickasaw life in the 1750s and offer interactive activities for all ages including; basket making, hide tanning, archery, traditional children’s games, craft and pottery demonstrations and stickball games.

Children’s Festival set for June 28

The Chickasaw Cultural Center will host the fourth annual Children’s Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 28.

This kid-friendly special celebration will feature traditional children’s games including nani’ (fish) catch and bean bag loksi’ (turtle) toss; arts and crafts, family friendly movies and other fun activities.

Living history performers will re-enact Chickasaw life in the 1750s in the traditional “living village” and the whole family can participate in interactive activities including stick ball, language demonstrations, story-telling and gardening demonstrations.
