Baseball: Favorites advance in East Sub-Section 8A openers

BEMIDJI -- The favorites had easy going in the first round of the East Sub-Section 8A baseball tournament Tuesday and on Thursday the top four seeds will tangle at the BSU diamond.

In Tuesday's action No. 1 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley blitzed No. 8 Laporte 22-0 and No. 4 Remer thumped No. 5 Lake of the Woods 15-6.

In the lower bracket openers No. 3 Bagley bumped No. 6 Northome-Kelliher 19-2 and No. 2 Bagley downed No. 7 Cass Lake-Bena 12-2.

In Thursday's 9 a.m. opener Remer will face WHA. Blackduck and Bagley will clash at 11:30 a.m.

The sub-section final will be at 2 p.m. and an elimination game will close the day's action at 4:30 p.m.

Thursday's survivors will return to BSU on June 3.
