2014 Red Lake Tribal Elections Today

Red Lake Tribal Elections 2014 take place today, with polls in all 4 districts opening at 8 AM and closing at 8 PM this evening.

Thirty-three candidates have filed for 7 seats that are up for election this year. The deadline for filing was Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 4 PM.

Filing for Red Lake Tribal Chairman were incumbent Floyd "Buck" Jourdain, Kathryn "Jody" Beaulieu, Ron Lussier and current Red Lake Tribal Treasurer Darrell G. Seki, Sr.

Incumbent Don Cook Sr. filed for reelection as Tribal Secretary, along with Rochelle "Chelle" Kingbird, Judy Roy, Sam Strong and Jim White.

A new Red Lake Treasurer will be elected in this year with the current Treasurer Darrell Seki Sr. filing for Chairman. Candidates for Treasurer are Michael Barrett, Annette Johnson, Lee Lussier Jr., Glenda J. Martin and Cheryl Schoenborn.

Incumbent Gary L. Nelson Sr. filed for reelection as Ponemah District Representative, along with challengers Clifford C. Hardy and Eugene Perkins.

For Red Lake Representative, Roman "Ducker" Stately filed for reelection, along with David F. Desjarlait, Deanna K. Lasley, Donovan M. May, Robert L. May, Martin "Mott" Parkhurst and Robert "Bob" Smith.

For the Redby District Representative, Julius "Toady" Thunder filed for reelection, along with challengers John W. Dudley, Matt Sayers, Clayton Van Wert and Thomas "Jambi" Westbrook.

The current Little Rock Representative, William "Billy" Green, did not file for reelection, so there will also be a new Representative for that district. Those filing were Adrian Lee Beaulieu, Katherine "Spears" Dudley, Christopher Jourdain and Robert "Charlie" Reynolds.

In the 2010 Red Lake Tribal Elections, there were 3076 total votes cast by tribal members. Almost 700 of those voting were in the form of absentee voting either in person, from Minneapolis or by mail.

RLNN expects a bigger turnout this year, especially on-reservation voters, due to the number of candidates in all races.

The unofficial election results should be available and made public shortly after the Polls close at 8 PM and the certified results made public on Thursday, May 15, 2014.

The deadline for contesting the election is May 20th, and by May 30th the General Election Board has to rule on election contests, if any.

If the election was uncontested, the run-off election must be held before July 19, 2014, and if contested, before July 29, 2014.
