Unofficial Leech Lake Primary results are in: LaRose leads all voting

CASS LAKE -- Archie LaRose was the top vote-getter in Tuesday’s Primary Election for secretary/treasurer of the Cass Lake Band of Ojibwe, according to unofficial results.

Leech Lake’s Primary narrowed the field in three races: secretary/treasurer and District II representative and District III representative.

Two candidates from each race will advance to the General Election on June 10.

In the race for secretary/treasurer, LaRose, who formerly served as secretary/treasurer and tribal chairman, was the top vote-getter with 622 votes, or 33.2 percent. Second was Donald “Mick” Finn, the incumbent, with 348 votes for 18.6 percent. Coming in third was Faron Jackson Sr. with 300 votes for 16 percent.

In District II, Penny DeVault led all voting with 147 votes, or 33.7 percent. Second was James Howard with 87 votes for 20 percent, followed closely by Burton “Luke” Wilson with 74 votes, for 17 percent.

In District III, the top candidate was incumbent Steven White with 206 votes for 71.5 percent, followed by Arnold Dahl with 66 votes for 23 percent. Thomas Chase gathered 16 votes for 5.6 percent.
